Equipment

  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk or fork
  • 1 measuring spoons
  • 1 baking dish or grill
  • 1 plastic wrap (optional)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey Can substitute with maple syrup for a different sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger (optional) Can be omitted.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 4 fillets salmon (about 6 ounces each)
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • green onions (for garnish, optional) Use if desired.

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, olive oil, garlic, ginger (if using), sesame oil, and rice vinegar until well combined.
  • Place the salmon fillets in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow baking dish. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  • Seal the bag (or cover the dish with plastic wrap) and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Preheat your grill or oven to medium heat (about 375°F/190°C).
  • Remove the salmon from the marinade and allow any excess marinade to drip off. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • If grilling: Place the salmon on the grill skin-side down and cook for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
  • If baking: Place the salmon fillets in a baking dish and bake for 12-15 minutes or until cooked through and flaky.
  • Serve the salmon hot, garnished with sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

You can substitute any of the ingredients for variations. For example, used maple syrup instead of honey for a different sweetness.
If you're short on time, marinating for just 15 minutes will still impart great flavor.
