- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup honey Can substitute with maple syrup for a different sweetness.
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger (optional) Can be omitted.
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 4 fillets salmon (about 6 ounces each)
- to taste salt and pepper
- green onions (for garnish, optional) Use if desired.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, olive oil, garlic, ginger (if using), sesame oil, and rice vinegar until well combined.
Place the salmon fillets in a resealable plastic bag or a shallow baking dish. Pour the marinade over the salmon, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
Seal the bag (or cover the dish with plastic wrap) and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.
Preheat your grill or oven to medium heat (about 375°F/190°C).
Remove the salmon from the marinade and allow any excess marinade to drip off. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
If grilling: Place the salmon on the grill skin-side down and cook for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
If baking: Place the salmon fillets in a baking dish and bake for 12-15 minutes or until cooked through and flaky.
Serve the salmon hot, garnished with sliced green onions if desired.
You can substitute any of the ingredients for variations. For example, used maple syrup instead of honey for a different sweetness.
If you're short on time, marinating for just 15 minutes will still impart great flavor.
