Equipment

  • 1 large pot
  • 1 colander
  • 1 skillet
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 baking dish optional

Ingredients

  • 8 oz pasta (penne or elbow)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  • Begin by cooking the pasta according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside once cooked.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until it becomes translucent.
  • Add the minced garlic and ground beef to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian herbs, salt, and black pepper into the skillet with the beef mixture. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the beef and sauce mixture. Stir in half of the mozzarella cheese and half of the Parmesan cheese.
  • Transfer the pasta mixture into a baking dish (if using). Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) if you choose to bake it.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
