Equipment

  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 Grater
  • 1 Measuring cups and spoons
  • 1 Serving dish

Ingredients

  • 1 cup orzo pasta
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • for garnish fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  • Bring a medium saucepan of salted water to a boil. Add the orzo pasta and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • In the same saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to let it brown.
  • Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and bring to a gentle simmer. Allow it to cook for about 3-4 minutes, reducing slightly.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and bring the mixture back to a simmer. Add the cooked orzo to the saucepan and mix well.
  • Gradually add the grated Parmesan cheese, stirring continuously until the cheese has melted and the sauce is creamy. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Remove from heat and let the dish sit for a few minutes to thicken slightly. Serve warm, garnished with fresh parsley.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, consider adding cooked chicken or vegetables such as spinach or peas.
This dish is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently on the stove, adding a splash of broth or cream if it becomes too thick.
