Equipment

  • 1 rolling pin
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 muffin pan
  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Approximately 2 1/4 tsp or 7g.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 egg beaten For egg wash.

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • In another bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  • Roll out the dough into a large rectangle (approximately 1/4 inch thick). Spread softened butter evenly over the surface.
  • In a small bowl, combine minced garlic, mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, and parsley. Sprinkle over the buttered dough.
  • Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Meanwhile, arrange each piece upright into a greased muffin pan.
  • Brush the tops of the cruffins with the beaten egg.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding herbs like thyme or basil to the cheese mixture.
Serve warm for the best texture, as they will be flaky and soft.
These can be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven for a quick snack or breakfast option.
